There’s a brand new authentic Italian restaurant on Ocean Road in South Shields that’s only been open just over a week and it definitely deserves a big shout out… Familia. We popped in for lunch and the food was amazing. We started with the arancini which were hands down the best we’ve ever had, then I had the mussel risotto while my sister-in-law went for the carbonara. Both were so flavoursome and tasted like proper Italian dishes.
It genuinely feels like a little slice of Italy by the beach and the location is perfect if you’re visiting South Shields seafront. They’re open from breakfast right through to evening, so you can pop in for coffee, breakfast, lunch or even just a glass of wine. The breakfast paninis already have my name all over them, so we’ll definitely be back soon.
