Caledonian Mystery Break

A budget-friendly adventure packed with surprises and laughs

Why not travel without the kids? My friend and I decided to throw the rulebook out the window and booked ourselves on a Mystery Break with Caledonian Travel, because sometimes, the best plan is no plan at all. Now, I’m usually the designated trip planner, the one with the itinerary, weather app and outfit list all prepped in advance… so letting go of control was a bit out of my comfort zone (and yes, packing for the unknown is no joke!). But honestly? The mystery made it so much more fun. From the second we stepped on the coach, the guessing games began, scanning road signs, making wild predictions, and trying to suss out every clue. The atmosphere onboard was buzzing: good vibes, friendly faces, and even a cheeky game of bingo to get everyone involved.

STOP #1: LIVERPOOL

Our first surprise stop was the iconic Albert Docks in Liverpool! With plenty of free time, we wandered the waterfront, soaked up some culture, enjoyed a tasty lunch, and of course, couldn’t resist a few drinks before heading back to the coach.

Then it was time to check in at our hotel, where a delicious three-course dinner was waiting for us. Think: warming soup to start, a comforting curry with all the extras, and a rich chocolate cake to top it off, yes please.

The next morning kicked off with a full buffet-style English breakfast (arguably one of the best parts of any UK break), and just like that, we were off on part two of the adventure…

STOP #2: WINDERMERE

A complete shift in pace as we rolled into the stunning Lake District. Think peaceful vibes, scenic views, and a much-needed breath of fresh countryside air. We had time to wander, take photos, and just enjoy being somewhere beautiful before heading home with happy hearts (and full camera rolls).
